Artist Statement

Amber Nicole uses blank canvases to create 3D mixed media visual art that utilizes unconventional materials such as vinyl records, floral arrangements, and crystals to recreate an artistic representation of the beauty in black women and natural black hair. The patience it takes for black women to take care of their hair has become the juxtaposition represented within the message behind her work, My Hair Speaks Volumes. Her artistic perspective unveils a unique hair story displayed through each canvas curated.

Her passion for music emerges within her appreciation for all natural hair journeys and a hope to remind the world that black hair continues to transform and make divine hair statements. The themes behind her concept showcase the love story between music and hair and how they are synonymous with vinyl records and flowers. Vinyl records hold an element of time through music because of the history held by the creation of records through the etching of sound waves. Flowers are unique in that they are naturally delicate, independent and capture beauty through the rarity and diversity of colors and shapes. Amber Nicole seeks to showcase how both mediums hold beauty and vintage appeal that has withstood the test of time, making them conceptually similar to the journey and care of black hair.
