Artist Statement

Outskirts of Now is a series of diptychs that views the psychological impact an environment can have on humans through touch and vision. Human nature is defined by naturally thinking, feeling, or acting in a(n) environment or situation. With the increase of gentrification across Atlanta, people have lost touch with nature and become more invested in the "now." Outskirts of Now presents the ephemeral experience of interacting with nature within the city of Atlanta. Using double exposures to emphasize how nature and humans interact, each portrait showcases the longing for a reconnection to nature as more construction continues. This series explores the harmony and the tension between ourselves and our surroundings.
