The Calmness in Cognition

A virtual presentation by Acquille Dunkley

December 6, 2021 - January 6, 2022

My work is a culmination of years I’ve spent learning and practicing photography, digital art, art history, and my personal fascination with cognitive behaviors in humans. Tones created by a warm light that emanates from a bedroom lamp before the sun or moon rises provide a certain calmness for me. These quiet moments encourage deep thoughts and allow us to reflect on the new day or the day that just passed. When light is cast on something or someone, the harmonies created between shadows and highlights become the sculptor of moods and emotions.

Through advances in technology, I am able to breathe new life into visual art with endless possibilities. It allows me to create environments with full control over lighting, textures, and colors. Through this process, I am able to set up virtual cameras and lights inside digital scenes. The result is an image created from my imagination and brought to life with the use of a computer.

To categorize the art I make, it would fit somewhere in the overarching genre called New Media Art. This form of art is made with the use of computers to provide visual insights into our social, cultural, political, industrial, and scientific environments.
